Oh, no, that’s bad. That’s bad. Oh boy! Now you’ve crashed it. Oh my god! (LAUGHTER) That’s absolutely convincing. I thought I was going over the ledge! This is Mevea Simulation in Lappeenranta, in Finland, who make some of the most realistic industrial simulators on Earth. These simulators can be used either for operator training, or for the machine R&D. You can test different kinds of designs of the machine. This is the same chair and controls as in the real machine. The machine control system doesn’t actually know it’s driving a simulator. I just instinctively looked down to see what was there! Yeah, you’re trying to keep yourself alive! And the screens do 3D? We haven’t turned it on today because of the cameras, but this will do full 3D and head tracking. Yes. That’s possible to do if you want to. But it doesn’t look nice to the other personnel here! This is run by three computers. Intel i7, 3.5GHz, and a GTX 780 graphics cards. So the folks at Mevea said “we’ve got this material handler simulator “that you should have a go on.” And then… then… they said they had some friends at a steelworks. And, uh. Yeah(!) – Okay. – Sit in. – Turn the seat. – Yep. – I’ll help you a little bit. – Okay. All right. Now you’re good to go. The movements of the joystick — so, left, right… Oh, that’s weird! Oh, that’s… aah! That’s a lot faster than I thought it was. Right then. The thing is, and this is very strange… I didn’t think about that movement. That just… that was clearly the right thing to do. Pull the right-hand joystick back. – Okay. Oh! That’s fast. – Up and down. Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Whoa. Whoa. Okay. – Careful with that! – Yep. It’s a lot… Because, in a simulator, that much swinging isn’t worrying. In real life… that’s really unnerving. And now… okay, you’re getting it. – Now, pull up… – Pull up. There we go. And… in. Okay. And now, grab. – Yes. Yep. And then… – Close it again. – Got it. Okay. All right, now lift it up a little bit more. – Go to the left? – Yep. This one… open. I… okay. Yep. Missed a little bit there. But that’s close(!) How are we looking? Is that going in? I think so, yes. That looks like it’s going in. – Slowly, slowly. – Slowly. Slowly. Bit more… – All right. Then open up. – Release! – Okay! – Now again. Now again! So, pretty cool isn’t it? I’ll tell you when my heart’s stopped doing 200bpm(!) Thank you very much to everyone at Mevea Simulation! If you want to know more about them, details are on screen now, including a link to their YouTube channel. Leave it there. Release. And then open. Good stuff! [Translating these subtitles?
